Why Golf?
Have you ever asked yourself “why golf”? How did I get into this!
Well, here is my reason, what is yours?
Dad loves tennis. Not that he has a lot of time to play before his retirement. After a lot of hard work practising medicine and rising a family of four, he had made himself a good living, travelled around the world a few times and membership to a couple of tennis clubs!
Unfortunately, the years have taken its toll and Dad developed a heart problem ten years ago and tennis was out of the question!
My relationship with Dad was not always great. We did not see eye to eye with a lot of things. Guess I am just different or we might be the same, both opinionated and stubborn! In addition, he living in Hong Kong and I in Australia does not help with our bonding. Times that we had together, there were not a lot to talk about.
More than a few years ago, Dad had a health scared. It made me realised that life is fragile. I decided that I need to do something to improve our relationship! I decided to pick up golf. We might have something common to talk about and may be play a round or two when he is in Sydney!
Perfect! I have been pretty athletic most of my life and at the time, I thought that golf looked like an easy sport; I’ll be able to nail it in no time! How hard can it be walking to a little white ball and hit at it! It’s stationery after all! Didn’t understand why there are so many clubs involved and why some have such a big head! Looks like it equates to a golfer’s ego! A bigger the head, the bigger a hit and more people go “wow”!
Hmmm, a very strange sport! Never the less, Dad likes it and I’m good at anything, why not! My golf journey started!
